Christo & Jeanne-Claude

Christo & Jeanne-Claude

The objective of this project was to promote an artist by creating a book cover, a few sample pages to provide a glimpse of the content and an electronic version of the book. Throughout the project, I was constrained to use the dimensions of an existing book to create the cover and the sample pages inside.

For this particular project, I was assigned the artist duo, Christo and Jeanne-Claude. In the design of the book cover, I chose to incorporate the colour orange as it is a colour often found in many of their artworks. To keep the composition visually balanced, I decided to use only the name "Christo" as the title of the book, rather than mentioning both members of the couple. In fact, this was a conscious marketing decision made by Jeanne and Christo themselves when presenting their artworks, and it remained consistent until their final exhibition. Furthermore, the title is wrapped around the book, resembling fabric being draped, symbolizing how this artistic duo utilizes fabric as a medium to create their works.
The use of the colour orange not only pays homage to their artworks but also serves as a visual cue to capture attention and create intrigue. It represents the vibrancy, energy, and boldness often associated with Christo and Jeanne-Claude's artistic installations.

In terms of the layout, I aimed for a clean and minimalist design. The name "Christo" is prominently displayed on the cover, utilizing a bold and contemporary font that reflects the modernity of their artistic practice. The typography is strategically placed, creating a sense of movement and flow that echoes the wrapping and draping techniques used in their installations.

For the sample pages inside the book, I carefully selected a few representative images of their notable projects. These images were accompanied by concise descriptions to provide readers with a glimpse into the world of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's artistic vision.

In the digital version of the book, I ensured that the layout and visual elements translated seamlessly to the digital medium, allowing for an engaging and immersive reading experience.

Overall, the book cover and sample pages aimed to capture the essence of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's artistic collaboration. The use of orange, the minimalist design, and the interplay of typography and imagery all worked together to convey the spirit and impact of their unique artistic installations.
